Chinese Fondue works the same way as Fondue Bourguignonne except a bouillon broth is used instead of oil. Cheese Fondue, funny enough, was invented when a Swiss farmer wanted to use up some cheese that had become dry. He melted it in a pan, added wine and spices and then dipped cubes of bread into the cheese mixture. This delicious discovery became known as Fondue - the French word for melted. Since then, Fondue has undergone many changes and nowadays it can be eaten as an entrée or as a main course. There is even such a thing as Chocolate Fondue which, with pieces of fresh fruit, makes for a exquisite dessert.
